Ferrari Roma

Overview

Ferrari unveiled the Roma in November 2019, and it was the brand’s entry-level grand tourer. It’s a front-engined V8 coupé that leans toward elegance rather than aggression. The name refers to Rome and to the “La Dolce Vita” spirit of 1950s and 60s Italy, and the design reflects that. The Ferrari Design Centre created a clean, simple body with a long bonnet, a fastback roofline and a short tail, with very little decoration. The nose uses a single body-coloured panel in place of a traditional grille. It looks more like a refined grand tourer than a hard-edged sports car, and many people consider it one of the most beautiful modern Ferraris.

Engine and Performance

Up front, mounted low and well back in the chassis, sits a 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8. It produces 620 PS (456 kW) and 761 Nm of torque, and the peak figures arrive at fairly low revs. It’s a development of the engine used in the Portofino, with a deep, rich sound and a strong, easy pull. Power goes through a new eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which is quicker and more compact than the older seven-speed unit. Ferrari quotes 3.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, 9.3 seconds to 200 km/h and a top speed of 320 km/h. Wikipediaitalpassion

Chassis and Handling

The Roma uses an aluminium chassis and body. Its quoted dry weight is 1,472 kg. A near-ideal front-to-rear weight balance helps it feel calm and well settled. It has an electronic differential, Side Slip Angle Control and the manettino dial, along with a rotary-style switch for drive modes, and an active rear spoiler that adjusts with speed. The steering is light and accurate, and the car feels more agile than its size suggests. It’s quick and composed on a fast road, and it’s comfortable and easy to live with in town. italpassion

Interior and Comfort

The cabin was a clear step forward in design. A “dual cockpit” layout gives the driver and the front passenger their own zones, with a 16-inch digital instrument display and a central touchscreen. The seats are supportive, the leather and trim are of a high standard, and the two small rear seats suit children or extra luggage. There’s a usable boot, and the car is comfortable on a long trip. Its many touch-sensitive controls were a common complaint among reviewers. whatcar

Production and Legacy

The Roma Spider, with a fabric roof, was revealed in March 2023, bringing back a soft top for a front-engined Ferrari for the first time since the 1969 365 GTS4. In July 2025, Ferrari launched the Amalfi to replace and upgrade the Roma coupé, while the Spider stayed in the range for a time. The Amalfi has the same underpinnings but a heavily reworked engine and body, and it brings back physical buttons on the steering wheel. The Roma is generally regarded as an elegant, easy-to-drive Ferrari, and its looks are likely to keep it popular for years to come.
